30年以上にもわたって描き続けられたライフワークにもあたる作品。永遠の命の象徴である火の鳥が軸になりつつも、物語は過去未来現代を縦横に、場所、設定を変えて展開されるという壮大なもの。様々な人生、人間模様が描かれ、 いつの世もくりかえされる人間の夢、希望、愚かさなど普遍的なテーマが描き出される。火の鳥の存在が深くそれぞれの物語 をつなげ、輪廻転生、生命の神秘という深いテーマが浮き彫りにされる。 （立版古は1978年の劇場版公開に際してのポスターより）
Tezuka spent more than 30 years in creation of HINOTORI, his literal life work. The series, which is developed around the Phoenix, the symbol of eternal life, beyond time and space, depicts universal themes such as life, relationship, dream, hope and folly of human beings. Through the whole series, the existence of the Phoenix retains continuity of each episode and sheds light on the secret of life such as reincarnation or metempsychosis. 日本が生んだ最大の天才漫画家であり、膨大な作品を創作しつづけた。日本におけるアニメ制作の先陣でもあり、実験的な制作手法を含めて大きな功績を残している。戦中の経験から生涯のテーマである「生命の尊さ」を強く意識し、医学博士号をもつにまで至った。幅広い分野にわたる深い知識と洞察力に裏打ちされた数々の名作を通じて、エンタテイメントと同時に深いテーマを伝えたその作品が与えた影響は現在にいたるまで計り知れない。
Tezuka, the greatest manga artist and the pioneer of Japanese animations, created incredible number of manga works and left a legacy to his successors in many ways including experimental animation production methods. His war experience made him strongly aware of the importance of life, which became his life-long theme in his works, leading him to complete his MD degree before his debut as a manga artist. Backed by a wide range of knowledge and profound insight in various fields, Tezuka not only entertained people but also conveyed his deep messages through many of his great masterpieces, having left immeasurable impact to this day. 1〜6 のパーツを順番に底面に貼っていく。
Glue each part 1〜6 to the base in number order.
2の火山の頂上を折って火口をつくり、巣の鳥を貼り合わせておく。
Bend crater of volcano 2 and glue a small bird 2A in the nest.
それぞれののりしろを同時に側面に貼り合わせていく。
In one procedure, glue corresponding part to the side wall.
b.火山の噴煙も側面に貼付けて、ひとまず箱の中身が出来上がり。
Smoke from volcano 9 shall be glued to the side wall.
続いて火の鳥を組立てていく。 組立てる際に、それぞれのパーツに軽く丸みをつけておくと全体に表情が豊かな仕上がりになるので試してみよう。
Phoenix assembly; upon assembly, give a curve to each part for more dimensional quality.
火の鳥のパーツをアルファベットの順に組立てていく。 羽根をのり付けする際に、指定されたのりしろ以上にはのりを塗らないように注意し、貼った後に羽根同士に少し隙間ができるようにしておく。
Assemble Phoenix in number order. While gluing wings, glue only on designated area for maximum 3D effect.
パーツをどんどん重ねるように組立てていく。

Glue each part, in number order, one after another.
火の鳥が出来上がったら。 翼を少し後ろにそらす感じでカーブをつけたり、脚、首なども少し曲げたりしながら表情をつけてみよう。
When Phoenix is complete, add curves to wings, legs, neck, tale etc for more dynamic form.
13Bの鳥のパーツは、写真のように支えのパーツで背面の空に固定する。
Glue flying bird 13B to support as shown and glue it to the back wall as shown.
背面を底面、側面に貼り合わせていく。
Glue top panel and complete the box.
箱を逆さにし、天面に火の鳥ののりしろをはり付ける。のりが乾く迄しっかりと押さえておき、乾いたら前面のフレームを付けて出来上がり。
Glue Phoenix tabs to the top panel as shown ( box upsidedown ). Glue front frame to complete.
火山の噴煙も側面に貼付けて、ひとまず箱の中身が出来上がり。
Smoke from volcano 9 shall be glued to the side wall.
